Acupuncture for Headaches or Migraines
Chances are you, or someone you know, in Scottsdale or Paradise Valley suffers from chronic headaches or migraines. A 2024 PubMed study review estimates U.S. migraine sufferers to be at “5.6% to 7.2% for men, 17.1% to 19.2% for women”.i And, according to John Hopkins Medicine, it is estimated that nearly 20 percent of children and teens experience migraine headaches, starting at age 7.
When I hear those numbers, I think, that shouldn’t be! Standard over-the-counter or prescribed medicines primarily focus on alleviating pain. Some medications are used to prevent occurrence but have a less than a 50% success rate. All medications come with side effects, some significant, and eventual damage to the liver and kidneys.
Did you know that acupuncture works better for headaches and migraines than current medications and without the side effects? According to a 2020 PubMed study from the National Institutes of Health, 57% of patients who received acupuncture had a reduction in migraines of at least 50%. This can be compared with 46% of patients who received medication. That’s a greater reduction without the side effects.
